A quick and easy snack featuring thin, crispy apple slices paired with a rich, velvety caramel dip. Perfect for family gatherings, potlucks, or a cozy treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large crisp apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar or coconut sugar (optional)
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or full-fat coconut milk for dairy-free)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Wash and core the apples, then slice them thinly—about 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick. Toss the slices in a bowl with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  3. Sprinkle the ground cinnamon and sugar over the apple slices and gently toss again to coat evenly.
  4. Lay the apple slices flat in a single layer on the baking sheet, making sure they don’t overlap.
  5. Bake the apple slices for about 1 hour, flipping halfway through to ensure both sides become crispy and golden.
  6. Check for doneness by letting a slice cool briefly; it should snap easily and feel dry. If needed, bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  7. Transfer the apple slices to a cooling rack to crisp up further while you prepare the caramel dip.
  8. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar and cook for 2-3 minutes until bubbling gently.
  9. Slowly whisk in the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Bring to a simmer and cook for another 3-5 minutes until slightly thickened and smooth.
  10. Add a pinch of sea salt and stir well. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.
  11. Arrange the crispy apple slices on a platter with a bowl of the creamy caramel dip and serve.

Notes

Keep the oven low and slow to avoid burning and ensure crispiness. Flip apple slices halfway through baking. Use lemon juice to prevent browning. If caramel dip thickens too much after cooling, warm gently before serving. For dairy-free, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream and butter with vegan butter.
