crispy crack shrimp recipe - featured image

A quick and easy crispy fried shrimp coated in seasoned flour, tossed in a rich garlic butter sauce with a hint of red pepper flakes for a perfect balance of crispy, buttery, and spicy flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt and black pepper to season
  • ½ cup vegetable or canola oil
  • Lemon wedges (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat dry thoroughly with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Place the all-purpose flour in a shallow bowl. Dredge each shrimp in the flour, shaking off any excess.
  3. Heat ½ cup vegetable oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering but not smoking.
  4. Carefully add the shrimp in a single layer and fry for about 2 minutes per side until golden and crisp. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. In a small saucepan or clean skillet, melt 4 tablespoons unsalted butter over medium-low heat. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking gently for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  6. Add the crispy shrimp into the garlic butter sauce and toss quickly to coat evenly.
  7. Transfer to a serving plate and squeeze fresh lemon wedges over the top if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Dry shrimp thoroughly before dredging to ensure crispiness. Do not overcrowd the pan when frying. Cook garlic butter sauce low and slow to avoid burning garlic. For extra crispiness, let coated shrimp rest 5 minutes before frying. Reheat leftovers in oven or air fryer to maintain crispiness.
