A quick and easy Easter treat featuring crunchy chocolate nests topped with nostalgic malted milk eggs. Perfect for festive celebrations and last-minute gifting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz (340 g) milk chocolate chips
  • 6 oz (170 g) white chocolate chips (optional, for drizzle)
  • 3 cups (75 g) rice cereal (Crisp Rice or similar)
  • 3 tbsp (43 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 bag (10-12) malted milk eggs (e.g., Cadbury Mini Eggs)
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) golden syrup or light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Melt the milk chocolate chips and butter in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring after each, until smooth and glossy (about 1-2 minutes total). Avoid overheating.
  2. Stir in the golden syrup and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  3. Gently fold the rice cereal into the chocolate mixture, coating evenly without crushing the cereal (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. On a parchment-lined baking sheet, spoon clusters of the chocolate cereal mixture into small nest shapes about 2 to 3 inches wide. Press gently to shape, keeping them airy.
  5. Press 3-4 malted milk eggs into the center of each nest, nestling them securely.
  6. Refrigerate the baking sheet for at least 30 minutes until the bark is set and firm.
  7. Optional: Melt white chocolate chips and drizzle over the set nests for a decorative finish.
  8. Once fully set, transfer the nests to an airtight container and keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Notes

Melt chocolate slowly to avoid graininess or burning. Fold cereal gently to keep it crunchy. Do not press nests too hard to maintain air pockets for authentic crunch. Store refrigerated in an airtight container for up to two weeks or freeze for longer storage. For dairy-free, substitute butter with coconut oil and use dairy-free chocolate chips. For gluten-free, use certified gluten-free rice cereal.
