Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken (about 8.8 oz or 250g), rotisserie chicken recommended
  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup (100g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup (75g) blue cheese crumbles
  • ½ cup (120ml) buffalo wing sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • ¼ cup (60ml) ranch dressing
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions
  • ¼ teaspoon celery seeds (optional)
  • Crushed pretzels, chopped nuts, or extra shredded cheddar cheese for rolling the cheese ball

Instructions

  1. Shred about 2 cups (8.8 oz or 250g) of cooked chicken finely and set aside.
  2. Let 8 oz (225g) cream cheese come to room temperature for about 15 minutes to soften.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar, ½ cup blue cheese crumbles, ½ cup buffalo sauce, ¼ cup ranch dressing, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, and ½ teaspoon onion powder. Mix well until creamy and evenly incorporated.
  4. Gently fold in shredded chicken and 2 tablespoons chopped green onions, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Lay out plastic wrap or parchment paper, scoop the mixture onto the center, and form into a tight ball. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to firm up.
  6. While chilling, crush pretzels, nuts, or prepare extra shredded cheddar cheese for coating.
  7. Remove the chilled cheese ball, unwrap, and roll it gently in the coating mixture until fully covered. If too soft, chill for 10 more minutes before coating.
  8. Return the coated cheese ball to the fridge for another 30 minutes to set.
  9. Serve chilled or slightly softened with celery sticks, crackers, or pita chips. Garnish with extra blue cheese crumbles or chopped green onions if desired.

Notes

Chilling is crucial for firm texture and easy slicing. If mixture is too sticky, refrigerate before shaping. Adjust buffalo sauce to control spice level. Use gluten-free coatings for gluten-free version. Dairy-free cream cheese and blue cheese alternatives can be used for dairy-free version. Serve with celery sticks, crackers, or pita chips for best experience.
