A quick and easy walking taco bar featuring crunchy Doritos, seasoned ground meat, and a variety of fresh toppings, perfect for casual gatherings and customizable meals.

  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey or plant-based ground meat alternative
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix or homemade blend (chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Individual bags of Doritos (Nacho Cheese or Cool Ranch)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup salsa or pico de gallo
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup guacamole or sliced avocado
  • 1/4 cup sliced jalapeños or pickled jalapeños (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes or cherry tomato halves
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives (optional)
  • 1 small lime, cut into wedges

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef (or substitute) and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and no longer pink, about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the cooked meat. Pour in 1/4 cup water and stir to combine. Let it simmer for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and fragrant.
  3. While the meat simmers, open Doritos bags and cut off an end to create an opening for toppings and scooping. Arrange bags upright on a tray or table.
  4. Place shredded cheese, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, jalapeños, tomatoes, olives, and cilantro into separate bowls with serving spoons or tongs. Include lime wedges.
  5. Spoon a generous amount of seasoned meat into the opened Doritos bag. Add preferred toppings, squeeze lime over it, fold the top, and enjoy with a fork or straight from the bag.
  6. Repeat to make multiple walking tacos with different topping combinations as desired.

Notes

Keep wet toppings like salsa and guacamole chilled until serving to maintain freshness. Cut Doritos bags carefully with scissors to avoid tearing. Add extra water or salsa if meat looks dry. Assemble tacos just before serving to keep chips crunchy.
