A fuss-free, elegant smoked salmon bagel board featuring whipped cream cheese and capers, perfect for quick brunches or casual entertaining.

Ingredients

  • Bagels (plain, everything, or sesame; everything bagels recommended)
  • Thinly sliced smoked salmon (wild-caught preferred)
  • Full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • Capers, rinsed if too salty
  • Thinly sliced red onion (optional)
  • Fresh dill sprigs
  • Lemon zest and lemon wedges
  • Unsalted butter, softened (optional)
  • Optional extras: sliced cucumber, tomato, radish, fresh ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese by leaving it at room temperature or microwaving in 10-second bursts until soft but not melted (about 5 minutes).
  2. Whip the cream cheese using an electric mixer or hand whisk until fluffy and spreadable (3-5 minutes).
  3. Slice bagels in half and optionally toast lightly (about 5 minutes).
  4. Thinly slice red onion, lemon, and any other desired veggies (about 5 minutes).
  5. Arrange the board by spreading whipped cream cheese on bagel halves or in a bowl, laying out smoked salmon in ribbons or folds, adding capers in small bowls or scattered, garnishing with dill sprigs and lemon wedges, and placing sliced onions and other veggies nearby (5-10 minutes).
  6. Offer fresh ground black pepper and butter for guests to customize their bagels.

Notes

Whip cream cheese for a lighter texture; rinse capers to reduce saltiness; slice onions paper-thin and soak if needed to mellow flavor; prepare board just before serving to keep bagels from getting soggy; lemon zest adds brightness; can substitute gluten-free bagels or dairy-free cream cheese for dietary needs.
