A refreshing, slightly spicy summer drink combining sweet watermelon and a hint of jalapeño heat, balanced with lime juice and a touch of sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups cubed seedless watermelon (about 600g)
  • 1 small jalapeño, stemmed and sliced (remove seeds for less heat)
  • Juice of 1 large lime (about 2 tablespoons or 30ml)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons agave syrup or honey, adjusted to taste
  • 2 cups cold water (480ml)
  • Ice cubes (optional, for serving)
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cube about 4 cups of seedless watermelon.
  2. Slice 1 small jalapeño thinly, removing seeds if you prefer less heat.
  3. Juice 1 large lime (about 2 tablespoons or 30ml).
  4. In a blender, combine watermelon cubes, sliced jalapeño, lime juice, and 2 cups cold water.
  5. Blend on high until smooth and slightly frothy.
  6. Optionally, pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher, pressing out as much juice as possible to remove pulp.
  7. Stir in 1 to 2 tablespoons of agave syrup or honey, adjusting sweetness to taste.
  8. Refrigerate the agua fresca for at least 30 minutes to chill and let flavors meld.
  9. Serve over ice cubes and garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.

Notes

Adjust jalapeño heat by removing seeds or using less jalapeño. Straining is optional depending on preferred texture. Use ripe watermelon for best flavor. Chill before serving for optimal refreshment. For stronger heat, add half the jalapeño after chilling. Milk can help soothe jalapeño burn.
