These quick and easy apple dumpling bites use refrigerated biscuit dough for a flaky, buttery treat filled with spiced apples and drizzled with rich caramel sauce. Perfect for fall gatherings or a cozy weeknight dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), peeled and diced into small cubes (about 1/4-inch pieces)
  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits (8 count)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream or milk
  • Pinch of flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, combine the diced apples, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Stir until the apples are evenly coated. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes.
  3. Open the can of refrigerated biscuits and separate them. Place each biscuit on a lightly floured surface and flatten into a 4-inch round.
  4. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the apple mixture into the center of each flattened biscuit round. Gently pull the edges of the dough up and around the filling, pinching them together at the top to form a little pouch.
  5. Place the assembled dumpling bites on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each one.
  6. Brush the tops of each dumpling bite with the melted butter.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown on top and the apple filling is bubbly.
  8. While the dumplings are baking, warm the caramel sauce in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir in the heavy cream or milk to thin it slightly.
  9. Once the dumplings are out of the oven, let them cool on the baking sheet for about 2 minutes. Transfer to a serving plate, drizzle generously with the warm caramel sauce, and sprinkle with a pinch of flaky sea salt. Serve warm.

Notes

For best results, use cold biscuit dough and avoid overfilling the dumplings. Let them rest for 2-3 minutes before serving to prevent burns. The caramel can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
