These crispy air fryer chicken wings are coated with a sweet and spicy honey buffalo glaze, delivering a perfect balance of crunch and flavor without the mess of deep-frying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds chicken wings, split into flats and drumettes
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (aluminum-free, gluten-free if needed)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup hot sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • Optional: pinch of smoked paprika or cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels.
  2. Toss wings with baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until evenly coated.
  3. Let wings rest for 10-15 minutes to help baking powder break down proteins for crispiness.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes.
  5. Arrange wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding.
  6. Cook wings at 400°F (200°C) for 12 minutes, then flip and cook for another 12-15 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
  7. While wings cook, melt butter and stir in hot sauce, honey, and apple cider vinegar to make the honey buffalo glaze.
  8. Transfer cooked wings to a large bowl and toss gently with the glaze until coated but still crisp.
  9. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce or celery sticks.
  10. Optional: If wings are not crispy enough after glazing, air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 2-3 minutes to firm up the skin.

Notes

Pat wings dry thoroughly to ensure crispiness. Use baking powder, not baking soda, for best results. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to allow even cooking. Coat wings with glaze after cooking to keep skin crispy. Reheat leftovers in the air fryer to restore crispness.
