These crispy mummy hot dogs wrapped in crescent roll dough are a quick, fun, and festive Halloween treat perfect for all ages. They feature a flaky, buttery crust with savory sausage inside and playful mustard or ketchup eyes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz / 226 g) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 regular-sized hot dogs (about 1 lb / 450 g), beef, turkey, or plant-based
  • Mustard, for decorating eyes
  • Ketchup, for decorating eyes
  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)
  • Optional: pinch of garlic powder or smoked paprika
  • Optional: thin slices of cheddar or mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Open the crescent roll dough and unroll it on a clean surface. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough lengthwise into thin strips about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) wide.
  3. Wrap each hot dog loosely with the dough strips, leaving small gaps to create a mummy bandage look.
  4. Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart.
  5. Mix the egg wash by beating one egg with a tablespoon of water. Lightly brush the dough strips on each mummy hot dog with the egg wash.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
  8. Use a small spoon or toothpick to dot mustard or ketchup as eyes on each mummy hot dog.
  9. Serve warm. Reheat gently in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes if needed.

Notes

Use thin dough strips and wrap loosely for best crispiness. Apply egg wash sparingly to avoid soggy spots. Bake on the middle rack for even heat. Can be made vegetarian with plant-based sausages. For extra crispiness, bake in an air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheat in the oven.
