A fun and simple recipe wrapping hot dogs in crescent dough strips to create spooky mummy snacks perfect for kids’ parties and Halloween.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can crescent dough (about 8 oz or 227 g)
  • 8 regular-sized hot dogs (45 inches each), beef, turkey, or vegetarian
  • Mustard or ketchup for decorating the eyes
  • Optional: cheese slices or shredded cheese (cut into thin strips)
  • Optional: sesame seeds or poppy seeds for sprinkling
  • Optional: cooking spray or melted butter for greasing and finishing

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean cutting board. Press perforations together to form one solid sheet. Slice the dough into thin strips about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) wide using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  3. Pat hot dogs dry if needed and place them evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet. If using cheese, place thin cheese strips on top of each hot dog before wrapping.
  4. Wrap each hot dog diagonally with the dough strips, leaving small gaps to mimic mummy bandages. Overlap strips slightly but leave some hot dog visible.
  5. Use mustard or ketchup with a toothpick or squeeze bottle to dot two small ‘eyes’ near the top of each mummy.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crescent dough is golden brown and cooked through. Watch closely after 10 minutes to avoid over-browning.
  7. Let the mummies cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before serving warm.

Notes

Use room temperature crescent dough for easier wrapping and less tearing. Apply mustard or ketchup eyes just before baking to keep them crisp. Brushing dough with melted butter before baking adds a golden sheen. For gluten-free, try gluten-free crescent dough alternatives but test texture first. Puff pastry can be used as a flakier alternative but watch baking time closely.
