A visually stunning Halloween punch that creates a creepy, bubbling cauldron effect with dry ice fog. This delicious blend of black cherry, citrus, and ginger ale is a party centerpiece that’s both dramatic and easy to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup black cherry juice concentrate, thawed if frozen
  • 4 cups lemon-lime soda, chilled
  • 2 cups ginger ale, chilled
  • 1 cup pineapple juice, chilled
  • ½ cup fresh lime juice (about 4–5 limes)
  • 1–2 teaspoons black gel food coloring
  • ½ teaspoon purple gel food coloring (optional)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar, or to taste
  • Ice ring or large ice block
  • 2–3 pounds dry ice

Instructions

  1. Make the ice ring the day before: Fill a bundt pan halfway with water and freeze for 2 hours. Add plastic spiders, gummy worms, or frozen fruit to the partially frozen water, then fill the rest of the way and freeze overnight.
  2. Mix the punch base: In a large pitcher, combine the thawed black cherry juice concentrate, pineapple juice, and fresh lime juice. Whisk until the concentrate is fully dissolved. This can be done up to 24 hours ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
  3. Adjust the color: In a small bowl, mix 1 teaspoon of black gel food coloring with ½ teaspoon of purple gel coloring. Add 2 tablespoons of the punch base and stir until smooth. Pour this mixture into the punch base and stir thoroughly. Add more black coloring if needed.
  4. Sweeten to taste: Taste the punch base and add sugar if needed. Start with ¼ cup and adjust from there.
  5. Chill everything thoroughly: At least 2 hours before serving, put the punch base, lemon-lime soda, and ginger ale in the refrigerator.
  6. Assemble the cauldron: Place your cauldron or punch bowl in its final serving location. Place the ice ring in the center of the cauldron.
  7. Combine the liquids: Pour the chilled punch base into the cauldron, then slowly add the lemon-lime soda and ginger ale. Stir gently with the ladle to combine.
  8. Add the dry ice: Put on thick gloves or oven mitts. Using metal tongs, carefully place 2-3 chunks of dry ice (each about the size of a golf ball) into the punch. Gently lower them into the liquid.
  9. Maintain the fog effect: The dry ice will produce fog for about 15-20 minutes. Add more chunks as needed throughout your party. Replenish with 1-2 chunks at a time.
  10. Serve with caution: Ladle the punch into cups, being careful not to scoop up any dry ice pieces. Warn guests not to touch or eat the dry ice.

Notes

Handle dry ice with thick gloves or tongs—never bare hands. Keep dry ice in a cooler with the lid slightly cracked, never in an airtight container. For best fog effect, ensure all ingredients are ice-cold. The punch base can be made up to 24 hours ahead. For an adult version, replace 1 cup of lemon-lime soda with vodka or white rum and add ½ cup blue curaçao.
