mummy dogs crescent roll recipe - featured image

These adorable mummy dogs are made with hot dogs wrapped in crescent roll dough, baked until golden, and decorated with mustard and ketchup eyes. A quick, fun, and kid-friendly Halloween treat that comes together in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 beef or turkey hot dogs (e.g., Hebrew National or Applegate)
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (sheet-style preferred)
  • Yellow mustard (for eyes)
  • Ketchup (for pupils)
  • Shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Everything bagel seasoning (optional)
  • Poppy seeds or sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a cutting board. If using perforated triangles, press seams together to seal. Pat into a rough rectangle.
  3. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, slice the dough lengthwise into 8-10 strips, each about 1/2 inch wide.
  4. Pat the hot dogs dry with a paper towel to help the dough stick.
  5. Wrap each hot dog with dough strips, starting at one end and wrapping at a slight angle, leaving about 1 inch exposed at the top for the face. Overlap the dough slightly.
  6. Place wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Let cool for 2-3 minutes on the baking sheet.
  9. Add mummy faces: squeeze two small dots of yellow mustard onto the exposed hot dog for eyes, then add a tiny dot of ketchup in the center of each mustard dot for pupils.

Notes

Pat hot dogs dry before wrapping to help dough stick. Use room temperature dough to prevent cracking. For extra golden color, brush with egg wash or melted butter before baking. Mustard eyes may slide off if hot dogs are wet; pat dry thoroughly or use a toothpick to create a small hole for the mustard.
