These adorable mummy pigs in a blanket are the perfect quick and easy Halloween appetizer. Made with just crescent roll dough and hot dogs, they’re ready in about 20 minutes and guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 12 cocktail sausages (like Lit’l Smokies) or 6 standard hot dogs, cut into thirds
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • Ketchup and mustard (for the eyes)
  • Optional: Everything Bagel Seasoning or Poppy Seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Prepare your sausages: If using cocktail sausages, leave them whole. If using standard hot dogs, cut each one into 3 or 4 equal pieces (about 1.5 to 2 inches long). Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  3. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean cutting board. If using perforated triangle sheets, pinch the seams together to create one solid rectangle. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough lengthwise into thin strips about ¼ to ½ inch wide (about 8 to 10 strips per can).
  4. Take one strip of dough and wrap it around a sausage piece, starting at one end and working your way to the other. Leave a small gap in the middle for the ‘face.’ Tuck the end of the dough strip firmly underneath the sausage. Place the wrapped mummy seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Repeat with the remaining sausages, placing them about an inch apart on the baking sheet.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of water until smooth. Using a pastry brush, gently brush the tops of each mummy with the egg wash.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the dough is puffed up and deep golden brown.
  8. Let the mummies cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes. Use a toothpick to dab tiny dots of ketchup and mustard onto the exposed sausage to create eyes. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

For best results, keep the dough cold to prevent tearing. Tuck the end of the dough strip underneath the sausage to prevent unraveling. Add the ketchup and mustard eyes after baking, not before. For a spicier version, use spicy sausages or add hot sauce to the egg wash.
