A stunning and easy Halloween fruit platter arranged like a spider web, made with fresh fruit and a fun olive spider centerpiece. Perfect for parties and guaranteed to impress.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large seedless watermelon (about 5–6 pounds)
  • 2 cups black grapes
  • 1 cup green grapes
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup fresh blackberries (optional)
  • 1 small pineapple
  • Toothpicks or small skewers
  • 1 large black olive (for spider)
  • Thin strips of red bell pepper or chives (for spider legs)

Instructions

  1. Prep the watermelon (10 minutes): Cut your watermelon in half crosswise, not lengthwise. You want a round slice, about 2 inches thick, that looks like a wheel. Set one half aside for snacking later. Take the other half and trim off the rind, leaving just the pink flesh. Pat it dry with paper towels.
  2. Create the web base (5 minutes): Place the watermelon round on your serving platter. Using a melon baller or a small cookie cutter, scoop out a circle about 3 inches wide from the very center. This is where the spider will sit later.
  3. Map out the web lines (5 minutes): Imagine a spider web radiating from the center. Using a paring knife, gently score shallow lines from the center hole outward to the edge of the watermelon. You want about 8 to 10 lines, evenly spaced.
  4. Add the black grapes (10 minutes): Take your black grapes and cut them in half lengthwise. Starting at the center, place a row of grape halves along each scored line, working your way outward. Use toothpicks to secure them if needed. Space the grapes about half an inch apart.
  5. Connect the web (10 minutes): Using more black grape halves, place them in arcs that connect the straight lines. Start from the center and work outward, creating concentric circles.
  6. Fill in the gaps (10 minutes): Take your green grapes, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and pineapple chunks and fill in all the empty spaces around the web. Don’t overcrowd—you want the web pattern to still be visible.
  7. Add the spider (2 minutes): For the center of the web, use a large black olive with eight legs made from thin strips of red bell pepper or chives. Place it right in the center hole.
  8. Final touches (2 minutes): Step back and look at your creation. Adjust any fruits that look out of place. Blot any excess moisture with a paper towel.

Notes

Keep fruit dry to prevent sliding. Work in sections starting from the center. Use colored cocktail toothpicks for a festive touch. Prep fruit the night before and assemble up to 2 hours before serving. Don’t stress about perfection—spider webs are meant to be a little wild.
