These Spooky Witch Finger Pretzel Rods with White Chocolate are a quick and easy Halloween treat that looks genuinely creepy but tastes delicious. Made with pretzel rods, white chocolate, and slivered almonds, they’re perfect for parties and guaranteed to be a conversation starter.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (about 12 ounces) pretzel rods
  • 12 ounces white chocolate melting wafers or white chocolate chips (Ghirardelli or Merckens recommended)
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds
  • 1/4 cup green sanding sugar
  • Red gel food coloring (optional, for cuticle effect)
  • Wax paper or parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Prep your workspace. Line a baking sheet with wax paper. Pour the green sanding sugar into a small, shallow bowl. Have your slivered almonds sorted and ready in a small dish. Set out a toothpick and a tiny dab of red gel food coloring on a piece of wax paper.
  2. Melt the white chocolate. Place white chocolate wafers or chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring well after each interval, until smooth and fully melted (about 2 to 3 minutes total). If it looks thick or grainy, stir in 1 teaspoon of coconut oil or shortening.
  3. Let the chocolate cool slightly for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to the consistency of thick cream.
  4. Dip the pretzel rods. Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip it into the melted white chocolate, leaving about 1 to 2 inches undipped at the top (the ‘wrist’ area). Tilt the bowl slightly to get a deeper pool of chocolate. Lift the pretzel out and let the excess drip back into the bowl for a few seconds. Gently tap the pretzel against the side of the bowl to remove stubborn drips.
  5. Apply the ‘fingernail.’ While the chocolate is still wet, press a slivered almond onto the dipped end of the pretzel. Position it so the pointed tip extends slightly past the end of the pretzel, like a fingernail. Press gently to ensure it adheres. The almond should be about one-third to one-half covered by chocolate.
  6. Add the cuticle detail. Dip the tip of a toothpick into the red gel food coloring. Carefully dab a tiny dot at the base of the almond, right where it meets the chocolate.
  7. Coat with sanding sugar. Immediately roll the chocolate-covered portion of the pretzel in the green sanding sugar, or sprinkle it over the top. Make sure the entire chocolate surface is covered.
  8. Set the fingers. Place the finished pretzel rod on the wax paper-lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining pretzels. Transfer the baking sheet to the refrigerator for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely firm. (Alternatively, freeze for 5 to 7 minutes.)
  9. Add the ‘wrinkle’ details (optional but recommended). Once the chocolate is set, dip a clean toothpick in a bit of melted white chocolate and draw tiny lines at the knuckle areas. You can also dust a little cocoa powder or cinnamon into the creases for a dirty, aged effect.

Notes

For best results, use high-quality white chocolate melting wafers (like Ghirardelli or Merckens) to avoid seizing. Let the melted chocolate cool slightly before dipping to achieve a smooth, even coating. Work in small batches (4-5 pretzels at a time) to maintain consistent chocolate temperature. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. These taste even better the next day.
