A quick and easy Halloween punch that creates a dramatic, smoking cauldron effect using dry ice. Made with green sports drink, pineapple juice, lemon-lime soda, and lime sherbet, this spooky beverage is perfect for last-minute parties and will impress both kids and adults.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (64-ounce) bottle green sports drink (preferably Lime Gatorade)
  • 1 (46-ounce) can unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 1 (2-liter) bottle lemon-lime soda (like Sprite or 7-Up)
  • 1 quart lime sherbet, softened
  • 1 cup frozen green grapes (optional, for ‘eyeballs’)
  • 1 to 2 pounds food-grade dry ice
  • Plastic cauldron or large punch bowl
  • Tongs or heavy-duty gloves

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ‘eyeball’ grapes (optional): About 30 minutes before serving, cut a tiny slit in each frozen green grape to make them look like eyeballs. Set aside.
  2. Chill all liquids: At least 2 hours before serving, refrigerate the sports drink, pineapple juice, and lemon-lime soda.
  3. Combine the punch base: In a large punch bowl or cauldron, pour the entire bottle of green sports drink and the can of pineapple juice. Stir gently.
  4. Add the lemon-lime soda: Slowly pour in the 2-liter bottle of lemon-lime soda down the side of the bowl to preserve carbonation. Stir gently.
  5. Scoop in the lime sherbet: Add dollops of softened lime sherbet to the punch. Do not stir completely; leave some floating islands.
  6. Add the grape ‘eyeballs’: Drop the frozen green grapes into the punch.
  7. Prepare the dry ice: Wearing heavy-duty gloves or using tongs, place dry ice in a ziplock bag and break into golf-ball-sized chunks using a hammer. Do not seal the bag.
  8. Add dry ice to punch: Using tongs, carefully drop 2-3 chunks of dry ice into the punch bowl. Do not use more at once to avoid overflow.
  9. Serve immediately: Ladle punch into cups, ensuring no solid dry ice pieces enter glasses. Wait at least 5 minutes after adding dry ice before serving.
  10. Refresh dry ice as needed: Add more dry ice chunks every 10-15 minutes to maintain the fog effect.

Notes

Never serve solid dry ice in drinks; wait until it fully sublimates. For a less sugary version, use sugar-free sports drink and diet soda. For an adult version, replace sports drink with 2 cups vodka or white rum. The punch base can be made up to 24 hours in advance; add sherbet and dry ice just before serving.
