A dramatic Halloween punch with eerie green color, citrusy fizz, and bubbling dry ice fog that spills over the edges of the bowl like a potion gone rogue. Quick and easy to make with simple ingredients, it’s a centerpiece that steals the show at any Halloween party.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (64-ounce) bottle lemonade (preferably Simply Lemonade)
  • 1 (46-ounce) can pineapple juice (100% juice, such as Dole)
  • 1 (2-liter) bottle ginger ale (such as Canada Dry or Schweppes)
  • 1 (12-ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
  • 1 cup water
  • Neon green food coloring (gel or liquid, such as Wilton’s Leaf Green)
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1 cup frozen green grapes
  • 23 pounds food-grade dry ice
  • Optional: Small cauldron or plastic cauldron bowl for presentation

Instructions

  1. Chill the lemonade, pineapple juice, and ginger ale in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
  2. In a large punch bowl or cauldron, combine the entire bottle of lemonade (64 ounces), entire can of pineapple juice (46 ounces), and thawed frozen lemonade concentrate (12 ounces). Stir until the concentrate is fully dissolved.
  3. Add 4-6 drops of neon green food coloring to the punch base. Stir well and check the color. Add 1-2 more drops at a time until you achieve a vibrant, eerie green (about 8 drops total). The color should be slightly darker than desired, as it will lighten when ginger ale and frozen fruit are added.
  4. Pour in the entire 2-liter bottle of ginger ale and 1 cup of water. Stir gently to combine, being careful not to lose too much carbonation.
  5. Drop in the frozen pineapple chunks and frozen green grapes. They will float and help keep the punch cold.
  6. Put on gloves or use tongs. Place the dry ice on a towel-covered cutting board and gently break it into 1-2 inch chunks using a hammer. Aim for 6-8 chunks total.
  7. Using tongs, carefully drop 2-3 chunks of dry ice into the punch bowl. Wait about 30 seconds, then add another chunk or two if more fog is desired. Do not exceed 5-6 chunks in the bowl at once.
  8. Ladle the punch into cups immediately, ensuring no pieces of dry ice end up in any cup. Use a slotted ladle for extra safety. Serve with spooky straws or gummy worms for garnish.

Notes

Dry ice safety is critical: always wear gloves or use tongs when handling dry ice. Never swallow dry ice or put it directly in your mouth. Keep dry ice chunks in the punch bowl only, and use a ladle to serve without scooping up any pieces. The colder the ingredients, the better the fog effect—chill everything for at least 2 hours. Add fresh dry ice chunks every 15-20 minutes to maintain the fog throughout the party. The punch base (without ginger ale and dry ice) can be made up to 24 hours in advance and stored in the refrigerator. Leftover punch (without dry ice) can be stored in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
