Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: flaky sea salt for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Beat in creamy peanut butter until fully combined, then add egg and vanilla extract. Mix just until combined, about 30 seconds.
  4. In a separate small bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough (about 1.5 tablespoons each) and roll into smooth balls. Place 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets. Gently press fork tines in a crisscross pattern on top of each ball.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, rotating pans halfway through. Cookies should be puffed and lightly golden around edges but still soft in center.
  8. Let cookies rest on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire cooling rack to cool completely.
  9. Melt semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
  10. Transfer melted chocolate to a small piping bag or zip-top bag with a tiny corner snipped off. Pipe a small dot in the center of each cookie, then pipe concentric circles around the dot, spacing about 1/4 inch apart.
  11. Drag a toothpick from the center outward through all circles to create a web effect. Repeat every 1/2 inch around the cookie. Wipe toothpick clean between each drag.
  12. Let cookies sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to allow chocolate to firm up, or refrigerate for 10-15 minutes.

Notes

Do not pipe chocolate when too hot; let it cool slightly for clean lines. For best results, pipe 6-8 cookies at a time to prevent chocolate from setting in the bag. If baking in high humidity, refrigerate finished cookies for 15 minutes to help chocolate firm up.
